Vinhos Verde by Niepoort

Niepoort is an independent family business since 1842. Through five generations, the business passed successfully from one Niepoort to the next Niepoort and in most cases older and younger generation worked side by side for a long period. From its wide range we chosse wines produced is the Vinho Verde region. OLO - stems from the best vineyards in the sub-region of Basto. It is a white wine inspired by the Olo River, which, with its impressive granite landscapes and waterfalls, is considered to be one of the most beautiful rivers of the Vinho Verde region. The abundance of water and granite in this area contributes to the minerality and freshness of the region’s terroir. The OLO is a serious, complex and beautifully harmonious wine. Very light in colour, almost crystalline, the OLO offers very complex and exceptionally linear aromas of stone, lemon, white fruit and ginger. This is an extremely graceful wine with abundant minerality, which thanks to its well-structured acidity, finishes with firmness, intensity and energy. OLO Sparkling Wine - result of a little experiment conducted in 2012 when it was decided to set aside a share of the OLO and not bottle. This quantity was kept in a small tank and bottled it the following January in order to produce a sparkling wine according to the traditional Champagne method. The result was very promising and repeated in the following year. That is how the Espumante OLO 2013 was created. This wine is elegant and delicate, showing its youth, fine mousse and beautiful balance. The wine’s acidity ensures a long and refreshing finish. This wine makes for an ideal aperitif, but also offers enough body to pair very nicely with shellfish. Teppo Peixe - was created to combine with Japanese cuisine, where the delicate and fine flavours are evident. It is a perfect wine to pair with Japanese cuisine or dishes with delicate flavours. Light and bright colour, the Teppo Peixe shows citrus and white flowers notes in the aroma. Slightly saline in the mouth, it is very delicate, enveloping and with a high acidity which allows a refreshing and crystalline finish. The light carbon dioxide present, when accompanied by dishes of Asian influence, raises the wine and works almost as a final shot to clear the palate. Light, discreet and elegant, is a very easy drinking wine Wanna Bi - It is a wine which offers a completely individual profile, distinctly different from the expressive and aromatic style which usually characterises this grape variety in the Minho region. As the name suggests, the “Wanabi” is a wine that wants to be a different kind of Alvarinho. This Alvarinho is also a wine of great elegance, with beautiful aromas of citrus and flowers harmonising with hints of tea leaves and wet stone. The subtle presence of wood lends the wine further aromatic complexity. On the palate the wine offers some body as well as vivacity and balance, while its acidity and minerality provide contrast for the wine’s delicate residual sweetness. With a long, creamy and complex finish, the Wanabi 2017 can be enjoyed young, although it also promises ageing potential. This wines are available for pruchase!!

Esporão wines reserve: red and white wine.

When it comes to wines, red wine, and white wine are the most sought after. The most recognized wine companies worldwide know it, so they have dedicated many of their operational years to the growth of their red and white wine reserves. In this sense, Esporão offers both types of wine and has taken care of the maturation time of each one, protecting the excellence of its raw material, in order to maintain its high quality. Red wine is the first wine that Esporão made and its creation dates back to 1985. It is one of the best Alentejo wines, a fact that can be verified thanks to its consistency and rich flavor. When you taste a little of the Esporão red wine, you can quickly recognize the aroma and flavor that characterizes the best productions of the territory where the Herdade do Esporão grapes are grown, the main element in the elaboration of this traditional product. In addition to following sustainable agricultural practices, the viticulture behind this wine allows its products to be one of the most optimal. In the case of red wine, grapes are harvested by hand and vinified in small capacity tanks with temperature control. Then, once the pressing is done, the wines are aged in American and French oak barrels for 12 months. Thanks to this, you get an exquisite red wine that maintains the traditional wealth of the region and respects the universal culture of wine. The production of white wine is a bit similar. The cultivation of the grapes with which it is made, also grapes from Herdade do Esporão, is carried out in a friendly way with the environment, ensuring the quality of its fruits and the rationalization of natural resources. They are harvested in the fresh morning and are vinified separately, after a partial stage of 6 months, French and American oak barrels with fine lees. The fantastic white wine of Esporão is creamy and has a volume and balance that give it a long and intense finish. It is full of fruit, contains notes of carambola (star fruit), grapefruit and lemon with hints of spices and a toasted and aromatic flavor. Red wine, meanwhile, is more dense and complex; it reveals notes of berries and blueberry jam and is flavored with hints of coffee and black pepper.

Marta's Suggestions

CEO of Casa dos Vinhos since 2017 Marta Moreira has fallen in love with the wine world for a long time.
Bound to the company since its foundation has been perfecting, over the years, its knowledge in this area.
In this link (https://winehouseportugal.com/320-marta-s-suggestions) you will find her suggestions, taking you to travel around the different regions of Portugal, which you must have know.
In this month she suggest 12 bottles of Vinhos Verdes.

The region’s exuberant vegetation – typical of a high humidity region – imparts a green tone to it; however, the name Vinhos Verdes (direct translation: green wines) owes its origin not only to the surrounding environment, but also to the type of wine produced in this region, which is typically acidulous, light, fairly alcoholic and has good digestive properties.

Mouchão Tonel 3-4 2011, produced in the Alentejo region, is the "Wine of the Year". "Aristocratic, deep and opaque, allied with a muscular and virile facet to the subtlety that is recognized to the great. It is intense and explosive in the mouth, thin and elegant. At the same time, austere.

This wine is only made in years of exceptional quality and and chosen from the best parcels of Alicante Bouschet in the Carapetos vineyard. Crushed by foot and after fermentation in the lagares it is aged in in two wooden vats numbered 3 and 4 for 24 months. It then matures for a further 24 to 36 months in bottle before release.
