Quinta de Valbom Promotion

Located in Canelas, on the northern bank of the Douro we find Quinta de Valbom, owned by the company that also owns the Alentejo wine brand Herdade dos Grous. This Estate was acquired in 2012 and, despite its semi - abandonment Luis Duarte, oenologist and project manager, and Ricardo Silva, also oenologist, managed to make the harvest that same year. Their first two wines resulted in practically biological wines, since there was almost no time for an intervention in the vineyard. Quinta de Valbom Tinto and Quinta de Valbom Reserva Tinto are the two wines that this property produces. They result from vinification in granite lagares and the ageing takes place in French oak barrels. More than just producing one more wine, Luis Duarte's aim is to produce an ex-libris of the douro region, so he is in no hurry to put it on the market. On the contrary, he bets on prolonged ageing and the result is a wine where all the elements are more integrated, more harmonized giving more pleasure to drink it! Do not miss our promotion and in the purchase of 6 bottles of Quinta do Valbom Red Wine receives also 2 bottles of Herdade dos Grous Red Wine! Available to order!

Quinta das Bágeiras - A Passion that spans Three Generations

Mario Sergio is one of the best known producers in the Bairrada region. In 1989, this producer founded Quinta das Bágeiras, merging the vineyards of his grandfather Fausto with those of his maternal grandfather Armando. From that moment, with the support of his father Abel, the vineyard that produced wine sold in bulk to cellars in the region, were transformed into bottled wines under the brand Quinta das Bágeiras. The Quinta das Bágeiras brand forms the backbone of all products, reflecting the way of being in the wine industry. They are classic wines that use very traditional wine practices (and, in many cases, contradict the rules of "modern oenology") resulting from the experience and knowledge passed on and improved from generation to generation. First and foremost, at Quinta das Bágeiras, they strive quality and character. That is why they follow a minimalist approach to wine production, producing wines as naturally as possible, so that they transmit the terroir where they were grown. Quinta das Bágeiras wines also share great longevity, whether they are red, white or sparkling.  Available for purchase!

Robustus

The name Robustus pays tribute to the first wine that Dirk Niepoort made in 1990 with the same name and which was never released. Since 2004, Robustus has been made according to the methods used in producing traditional wines. The long ageing in old wood casks gives it maturity, complexity, softens the tannins and gives the wine a unique precision and balance, without losing its liveliness and aromatic freshness. Currently Robustus comes from our oldest vines, which are north-facing, and where acidity and tannic structure are high. Robustus sings the praises of the Douro heritage, because in an extremely hot region, the diversity of the terroirs and intrinsic knowledge of the old vine offers fresh wines for laying down. Robustus mirrors the Douro in all its splendour: deep, complex and austere aromas offer multiple layers to discover. The old vines and the blend of grape varieties contribute to its fine and strongly individual character. In the glass, it shows impressive freshness, minerality and razor-sharp precision. Full-bodied and unctuous, it nevertheless presents remarkable balance. The fine-grained tannins and long barrel maturation lend the Robustus a delicate and elegant manner, with a long, expressive finish full of tension and grip. Although it is already a big wine, the Robustus is still far from peaking, with many decades lying ahead. Decanting is essential. Available to order!

Dona Berta

Dona Berta wines are produced at Quinta do Carrenho, in the Douro region, in the municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa. The quinta is located in the heart of the "Douro Superior", in a terroir extraordinarily suited to the cultivation of vines and the production of high quality wines. The plantation/reconversion of Quinta do Carrenho started about 35 years ago. For this purpose some of the best genuinely Douro grape varieties were selected - Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Rabigato and Verdelho - . Besides the reconverted vines, 2 ha of century-old vines were kept that kept the varieties of the time, some of which are not even in the current register of the Douro and Port Wine Institute - Casculho, Cornifesto, Tinta Raiz, Siveirinha, Donzelinho and Folgozão. It is from this centenary vineyard, planted on land of granitic origin, that the wine Dona Berta Vinha Centenária, the ex-libris of the house, is produced. Hernani Verdelho is the great responsible for the appearance of Dona Berta wines. He grew up at Quinta do Carrenho hearing his uncle-avo say "One day you will still keep them and make a great quinta" and, after years of working on the quinta's recovery, together with his wife Fernanda, presents to the public in 2001 the Dona Berta project, wines with character and tempting that do not leave anyone indifferent. Luis seabra

Granito Cru, Xisto Cru, Xisto Ilimitado, Xisto Indie and Mono C are wines of the producer Luis Seabra who after several years working for others decided to create the company Luis Seabra Vinhos. The desire to produce his own wine led him to start a project in the Douro region and the sub-region of Monção e Melgaço. And so CRU wines are born, wines with minimum intervention from the ground to the bottle. Without corsets or make-up these wines seek to show where they come from, the natural fermentations (where only sulphurous is used). In this way, they aim to be true and honest wines, pure and raw, where the only commitment is to learn how to do better. All CRU Project wines ferment and age in wood, their contact with stainless steel is reduced to the minimum indispensable. Granito Cru is a Vinho Verde produced from the Alvarinho grape variety. It presents a ripe and floral fruit profile of the countryside, a delicate evolution giving good complexity. In the mouth it shows a beautiful balance, good acidity, good body and structure, light fruity sweetness at the end. A wine with distinctive personality. Xisto Cru White is a Douro wine produced from the varieties Códega de Larinho, Rabigato, Viosinho. Its presents a brilliant straw. On the nose, high toned and mineral driven aromas of sour peach, flowers, fresh fennel bulb and savory. On the palate, more peach, citrus zest and fennel, with white pepper and floral tones rounding out the finish.  The Xisto Cru Red is one of a series of wines that Luis makes that exemplify and express the intensely terroir-driven style in which he operates. It presents a dark ruby. On the nose, mineral driven aromas of red berries, forest floor, green herbs and smoke. On the palate, lively acidity cuts through a core of fraise de bois, ripe strawberry and sour cherry, with excellent cut and precision to the wet stone and dusty mineral on the finish. Xisto Ilimitado White shows a bright straw yellow. On the nose, stone and orchard fruit abound, with flinty wet stone and white pepper laid over the dominant aromatics. On the palate, impressively bright and mineral driven, with a great balance between power and lift. Lemon, green apple, bosc pear flavors comingle with a touch of floral tone and slate minerals. Juicy and mineral-driven all at once. Xisto Ilimitado Red reveals right garnet. High toned red and blue fruit aromas, tinged with wet stone and violets. On the palate, lush, but with bright acidity to balance the red cherry and pomegranate fruit. White pepper, slate and herbal aromas overlay the core of fruit on a juicy, fresh finish. Mono C is made from Castelão varietal, this is an easily approachable, juicy wine, bursting with lots of red fruits. The palate is round, with soft tannins and crisp, mouthwatering acidity. Is is perfect with all sorts of cuisine and at any time of year Indie Xisto is a blend of indigenous grape varieties from Douro Valley led by Tinta Roriz and Touriga Franca. There are plenty of brambles and cassis notes on the nose with a hint of supple leather. On the palate there's plenty of ripe fruit but a definite old world restraint which gives it real character. An excellently crafted wine with plenty of personality and pleasingly moderate in alcohol. Granito Cru, Xisto Cru and Xisto Ilimitado, Mono C and Indie translate, without any doubt, the way Luis Seabra produces his wines, which are intended to be a clear expression of the terroir and the place. The vineyards are cultivated in a sustainable way and the winemaking uses only native yeasts. In this way, Luis eliminates all potential variability other than the type of soil as an expression of terroir. Available to order!

Taylor's Tawnies Port wines

Port Wine is one of the best known and appreciated fortified wine. It is obtained by adding brandy at a specific time, before finishing the fermentation. This means that the wine will retain the natural sweetness of the grape, becoming rich, round and soft in the mouth. Produced in one of the oldest demarcated regions, Port wine owes its unique and distinct characteristics to a unique association of climate, soil, grape variety and tradition. The grapes, grown on the steep and rocky slopes that border the Douro River and its tributaries, most well known, include Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Amarela and Tinto Cão, but in total there are around thirty varieties of Port grape. The different styles of Port essentially derive from the various ways in which it can be aged, in wooden casks or in the bottle. This condition, as far as the way it is aged is concerned, will give the wine certain characteristics. Taylor's is one of the oldest Port Wine houses, which since 1692 has been dedicated exclusively to its production, and is therefore also one of the most prestigious Port Wine houses. Besides its magnificent Vintage Ports also its dated Tawny wines deserve to be highlighted. These are rich and complex wines, which age for longer periods in oak casks. Ageing in casks translates into delicious aromas of walnut, spice and oak wood intensify the longer they are aged in wood. Taylor's has one of the largest reserves of Tawny Port aged in wood, matured in its cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, and offers the full range of ages. Available to order! The 40 years of ageing in wood have concentrated this wine almost to an essence, producing intense and complex nutty and spicy aromas and a dense and concentrated palate full of rich mellow flavour. Tasting Notes: A sublime Port of very great age which shows the old olive-gold hue of its many years in cask. Decades of evaporation have concentrated this extraordinary wine to an exceptional density, with a powerful nose of dried fruit, honey and a touch of spice. Impressions of nutmeg, roasted coffee and an intense nuttiness converge both in the bouquet and on the palate. The wine’s rich, intense, voluptuous, almost viscous texture culminate in a finish of incredible length. Tasting Notes: Deep, old gold colour with hints of dried fruit and honey offsetting the rich nutty aromas. Lush, silky richness with an elegant, slightly austere quality which is quite distinctive. Subtle dried fruit flavours underly, exotic layers of caramel and nuts culminating in an endless finish. In the 20 Year Old tawny, the fruit has mellowed further than in the 10 Year Old, and the spicy, nutty aromas of ageing are more powerful and intense. Tasting Notes: Intense amber tawny colour. Opulent and voluptuous nose of complex spicy, jammy and nutty aromas, hints of orange flower and a fine oakiness coming from the long period of aging in cask. The palate is full of very rich and concentrated flavour and has a long mellow finish. Taylor’s 10 Year Old Tawny is a superb example of the aged tawny style. Mellow and elegant, combining delicate wood notes with rich aromas of mature fruit, it is bottled for immediate drinking. Tasting Notes: Deep brick colour with amber rim. Rich and elegant nose combining aromas of ripe berry fruit with a delicate nuttiness and subtle mellow notes of chocolate, butterscotch and fine oak wood. Smooth and silky on the palate and full of ripe figgy, jammy flavours which persist on the long finish. Taylor’s Fine Tawny is drawn from wines selected for their smoothness and mellow character. These are aged for up to three years in oak casks in Taylor’s cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. The individual wines are then blended together a few months before bottling for balance and completeness.  Tasting Notes: Pale brick colour with broad amber rim. Mellow nose of succulent ripe berry fruit with aromas of butterscotch, figs and prunes interwoven with attractive nutty and spicy aromas. Smooth and round on the palate, full of rich strawberry jam flavours.

Herdade Aldeia de Cima: The wines are designed in the vineyard

Herdade Aldeia de Cima is Luisa Amorim's new project, responsible for managing the wines of Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo in the Douro and Taboadella in Dão. Although Herdade Aldeia de Cima has belonged to the Amorim family since 1994, it was not until 2017 that the decision to rebuild the property, together with the planting of a vineyard at levels in the Serra do Mendro, became a life project. The location of the estate, Serra do Mendro, has unique characteristics, which gives rise to a wide variety of microclimates and, consequently, micro terroirs. The vineyard will also differentiate the type of wines it will produce: The Alfaiates vineyard, the first to be planted, is located in spots of irregular geometry characterized by peaks and its sun exposure combined with an unusual thermal amplitude is essential to give the wine freshness. The Aldeya Vineyard and the Sant'Anna Vineyard will be born on the plateau. The soil will influence the structure, perfume and body of the wine. The Family Vine is a reproduction of the ancient agriculture, using an archaic training system, based on goblet vine training, the vines - that have no wire lattice-work and display a “crawling” appearance - are surrounded by the same micro-climate.  On the estate, viticulture is practised in integrated production mode and later converted to organic production mode.  Joaquim Faria is responsible for viticulture, Jorge Alves, as consultant, and António Carvalheiro, as resident, are the winemakers of the wines produced at Herdade Aldeia de Cima. Alyantiju and Herdade Aldeia de Cima Reserva are the first wines from this property.

Quinta Do Popa: A historical winemaker house.

Quinta Do Popa is owned by a family that has passed its legacy down through the generations doing what they do best; wine. Since this producer house was founded, its objective has been to extend its brand to each region of the world. And, they have known how to do it very well. They have always taken care of the quality of their products. The grapes from its harvests are collected by specialists who give it the ideal treatment to obtain wines so exquisite that they conquer the most demanding palates. At Quinta Do Popa, they pay special attention even to the weather. Its grapes go through a maturation process under a sun with enough heat to give it that texture, color and flavor of its emblematic drinks. Besides, it is one of the few winemaker houses that has maintained the use of such sophisticated and traditional methods as the pisa a pie (traditional food treading), which ensures a better acquisition of the most delicious extracts of the fruit. All its raw materials are selected with great care. Its vineyards are protected and fed by the majesty of the Douro river, especially those considered heritage because of their 80 years of work. The collectors explore them daily to obtain only that fruit that meets the quality requirements and, additionally, maintains the historical touch that only Douro grape varieties possess.Among its most renowned products are its special editions, among which we can find the following:- Papo red wine: an exquisite wine of beautiful color with vanilla aroma and butter notes. It is complex but fresh and elegant, and its flavor has hints of tobacco and wood. It is a tribute to Luis Pato.- Popa tinto Doce: It is a wine created in honor of the women of the family. Its color is deep violet and it smells of red berries and strawberry jam. It is fine and discreet, with a level of acidity that balances its flavors.- Quinta Do Popa HOMENAGEM: A tribute to Francisco Ferreira (PÔPA). It is a ruby colored wine. Its aroma is very diverse, with hints of menthol and notes of highly ripened fruit (blackberry and black plum). It is exquisite on the palate, has good volume and a slightly toasted flavor thanks to the wooden barrels in which it is macerated.

Reynolds - Art and Tradition since 1850

Thomas Reynolds, an English seaman and merchant, arrived in Portugal in 1820, attracted by the potential of the wine trade.
