Quinta Do Popa: A historical winemaker house.

Quinta Do Popa is owned by a family that has passed its legacy down through the generations doing what they do best; wine. Since this producer house was founded, its objective has been to extend its brand to each region of the world. And, they have known how to do it very well. They have always taken care of the quality of their products. The grapes from its harvests are collected by specialists who give it the ideal treatment to obtain wines so exquisite that they conquer the most demanding palates. At Quinta Do Popa, they pay special attention even to the weather. Its grapes go through a maturation process under a sun with enough heat to give it that texture, color and flavor of its emblematic drinks. Besides, it is one of the few winemaker houses that has maintained the use of such sophisticated and traditional methods as the pisa a pie (traditional food treading), which ensures a better acquisition of the most delicious extracts of the fruit. All its raw materials are selected with great care. Its vineyards are protected and fed by the majesty of the Douro river, especially those considered heritage because of their 80 years of work. The collectors explore them daily to obtain only that fruit that meets the quality requirements and, additionally, maintains the historical touch that only Douro grape varieties possess.Among its most renowned products are its special editions, among which we can find the following:- Papo red wine: an exquisite wine of beautiful color with vanilla aroma and butter notes. It is complex but fresh and elegant, and its flavor has hints of tobacco and wood. It is a tribute to Luis Pato.- Popa tinto Doce: It is a wine created in honor of the women of the family. Its color is deep violet and it smells of red berries and strawberry jam. It is fine and discreet, with a level of acidity that balances its flavors.- Quinta Do Popa HOMENAGEM: A tribute to Francisco Ferreira (PÔPA). It is a ruby colored wine. Its aroma is very diverse, with hints of menthol and notes of highly ripened fruit (blackberry and black plum). It is exquisite on the palate, has good volume and a slightly toasted flavor thanks to the wooden barrels in which it is macerated.

Reynolds - Art and Tradition since 1850

Thomas Reynolds, an English seaman and merchant, arrived in Portugal in 1820, attracted by the potential of the wine trade. He settled in the northern town of Porto with his two sons, Thomas and Robert. Years later, they move to Spain and invest in the cork industry. The activity is profitable and quickly expands to Portugal. In 1850 they decide to return to the country and settle in Estremoz. But Thomas and his eldest son, Thomas, driven by their entrepreneurial spirit soon left for New Zealand and never returned.Robert, the youngest son, is in charge of the business, which he quickly develops with the acquisition of new land and the production of quality wines, an activity he carried out with commitment and passion. The Alentejo becomes the definitive resting place of the Reynolds in Portugal and of Robert, the family patriarch. Robert Rafael, Carlos, Glória and Julián are the descendants who have kept the name and heritage of the Reynolds Family alive over time. To honour his mother and all his ancestors who lived in the Alentejo, Gloria’s son Julian produce a quality wine, which carries his mother’s name – Gloria Reynolds. Alicante Bouschet is the main variety of Reynolds wines. In fact it was introduced in Portugal by the Reynolds family a century and a half ago. Touriga Nacional, Aragonez, Trincadeira, Alfrocheiro, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon are also used in the red wines. As for the whites, the chosen grape varieties are Antão Vaz and Arinto. Vinha Paz - Five generations of wine producers

In 2002, the first Vinha Paz was born, whose name was inspired by the mother of António Canto Moniz, the producer. Vinha Paz is more than a wine, it is a family legacy with more than a century, passed from generation to generation. A story that began in the first granite wine cellar, built by the great-great-grandfather of António Canto Moniz, where, even today, wine is made in an ancient way but using modern technologies. And the story continued: his grandfather was the first president of the Federation of Viticulturists in Dão, his father developed cooperativism and was president of a cooperative winery and his younger brother was director of the Federation of Vinhos do Dão. The label's iconic image is of a gate at the Carreira Alta house, where her sister lives and the winery is located. Henrique, his son, is the current manager of Vinha Paz. With him, he continues this story of five generations of a family making wines with passion and personality, for over 150 years. In the Vinha Paz range, typical Dão grape varieties are used (touriga nacional, alfrocheiro, Tinta roriz and jaen, for reds; cross and malvasia, for whites). In the Vinha Paz range, there is a special wine, Othon, produced from old vines.

Quinta das Bágeiras Tribute wines

Quinta das Bágeiras is one of the most well-known and appreciated wine brands in the Bairrada region. Its producer, Mário Sérgio has always wanted to produce wines that reflect the quality and character of the region. In this way, Quinta das Bágeiras wines are made in the most natural way possible. Quinta das Bágeiras is one of the most well-known and appreciated wine brands in the Bairrada region. Its producer, Mári Sérgio has always wanted to produce wines that reflect the quality and character of the region. In this way, Quinta das Bágeiras wines are made in the most natural way possible The passion for winemaking by the family of Mário Sérgio. came to life through his grandfather Fausto. He was the first in the family to devote himself to the vineyard and the winery and he was the one who bought the first plots. He passed down his passion for the land to the generations that came after him, as well as the values he always stood by: hard-work, perseverance and integrity.Grandfather Fausto enjoyed elegant and fresh wines, with softer tannins and less alcohol content (thus allowing him to indulge in one more glass...). The wine named after him was created with these memories in mind, a wine which carries the simplicity and lightness of Fausto himself. Abel Nuno represents the second generation in the history of Quinta das Bágeiras. He was the one who took note of the best vineyard plots in Bairrada, small properties they have acquired over the last 25 years and, to this day, he is still the one who looks after them, in a wise, rigorous and caring way. This wine was created not only as an homage to Mário Sergio's father, but to the family as a whole. Abel always preferred wines with character, the strong and full structure of which make an impression and what they tried to accomplish here was a wine to his liking, white as well as red. Therefore, they also wanted to prove to themselves that it was possible to produce a great wine from vines that were "only" 15-years-old, but that are grown in an excellent terroir, mimicking the natural production of an old vineyard, through the mixture of grape varieties and the reduction of the younger vines' production. In 2017 Quinta das Bágeiras bottled 2000 bottles of its red reserve in a special edition commemorating the 30th anniversary of Quinta do Bill, a Portuguese folk-rock band. This red reserve is obtained from Baga grapes, from vines planted in the best clay-limestone soils in the region. Fermented in small mills, without destemming, it aged in new French 500 liter oak barrels for 18 months. Available for purchase!

DoDa - Two wine regions in the same bottle

Inspired by an old idea of Rolf Niepoort, Dirk joined Alvaro de Castro to blend the “perfect wine”. The innovative approach was the union of two different wine regions Dão and Douro. The blend of the different characteristics created an impressive wine with the freshness and elegance of Dão and the concentration and fine tannins of Douro. The first Dado was born in 2000, a blend of 50% Dão wine, from Quinta da Pellada and 50% Douro wine, from Quinta do Carril. Making the wine was actually the easiest part of the process. The challenge was to overcome all the legal problems related to the label approval. As a table wine the label could not mention: region involved , year of harvest, year of bottling, or the history of the wine... Nevertheless, the result was a lovely perfumed wine, with raspberry fruit aromas, richness and freshness on the palate, firm tannins, bright acidity, and with a creamy feel to the whole.

Quinta do Crasto single varietals

Located in a prime spot in the Douro Demarcated Region in Northern Portugal, Quinta do Crasto has been in the family of Leonor and Jorge Roquette for more than a century. Like all the other great Douro estates, Quinta do Crasto dates far back into ancient times. The name Crasto comes from the Latin castrum meaning “Roman fort”. Each year, Quinta do Crasto produces around 1,500,000 bottles of Douro and Port wines. The Quinta do Crasto single varietals are premium wines. Produced exclusively with fruit of the respective variety, they are only bottled in those years of such exceptional quality that the grape showcases all its true potential and achieves the maximum expression of the identity of its variety. Touriga Nacional is a notable Douro Valley grape. It is a very fresh variety that brings vivacity to this very hot region. In addition to freshness, this grape variety has a distinctive aroma marked by notes of violet. Quinta do Crasto Touriga Nacional has a lively and concentrated colour. The intense aroma is of ripe fruit with notes of good wood. It has great presence in the mouth, soft and round, with everything highly well-tuned. The finish is long with hints of spices. Touriga Franca is an emblematic Douro grape that is well adapted to the viticultural characteristics of the region and highly interesting oenologically speaking. It is a reliable variety that has the great virtue of producing low levels of alcohol in spite of the heat in a region such as the Douro. Quinta do Crasto Touriga Franca is rich violet in colour. On the nose, it offers an impressive intensity and highly concentrated aromas of red fruits in perfect harmony with soft floral notes. In the mouth, it starts intensely and then evolves into an elegant wine, with excellent mouth volume and silky tannins, all of which are well integrated with notes of red fruits. Its finish is perfectly balanced, extraordinarily long, and full of freshness. This wine is the perfect expression of the identity of the grape variety. Tinta Roriz is a challenging grape variety from an oenological point of view. High in tannins, its biggest challenge is the phenolic maturation of the grapes. In order to achieve the desired point of tannin maturation, these grapes require the ideal terroir in terms of soil, altitude and sun exposure, with favourable climatic conditions throughout the year. Quinta do Crasto Tinta Roriz has a lively and concentrated colour. On the nose, it presents an intense aroma of ripe fruit with good woody notes. It has great presence in the mouth, soft and round, with everything in perfect balance. It has a long and prolonged finish These wines are available for purchase!!
