Casa Santa Eulália

Located in the municipality of Mondim de Basto, in the middle of the Vinho Verde region, the Casa de Santa Eulália is a historical landmark since the 17th century. The excellent climatic conditions and granite soil combined with the passion for viticulture that has passed down from generation to generation contributed to the success of the restructuring of 38 hectares of vineyards. This estate produces and bottles wines under the Plainas and Santa Eulália brands. In the production of Plainas White wines the chosen grape varieties are Arinto, Azal and Loureiro. The fermentation of the wines takes place in stainless steel vats and should be served at 8ºC as an accompaniment to fish and seafood. For the Plainas Rosé wine the grape variety used is Espadeiro and, as in the white ones the fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats. This wine has a salmon colour, light and fresh mouth showing crisp and lively acidity and the aroma is marked by red fruits. It should be served between 8 and 10ºC accompanied by fish, seafood and cold meats. Vinhão is the chosen variety for the Red Plainas. Unlike previous wines, only 50% ferments in stainless steel vats. The rest ferments in presses with foot treading. It has a garnet colour and aromas reminiscent of macerated black fruit. In the mouth it reveals a unique red wine, intense, fresh, balanced and of lively acidity. It should be served at 12ºC accompanied by red meat. Sauvignon Blanc, Alvarinho, Trajadura and Avesso are the grape varieties chosen to produce the wine under the brand name Santa Eulália. These white wines have a citric colour and on the palate are elegant with a prolonged finish. They should be served at 8ºC accompanied by fish, seafood and white meat.
