Located in the centre of the DOC Douro Region, Quinta dos Murças is characterised by the presence of 8 terroirs marked by mountains, different altitudes and solar exposures, schistous soils and the characteristic climate of the Douro river valley. Dozens of native grape varieties have been planted in the vineyards, according to Biological Production and Integrated Production. Olive trees, orange trees, almond trees and Mediterranean forest help to maintain the balance of the ecosystem. This farm, owned by Herdade do Esporão - Alentejo wine producer - bottles the wines of Douro Assobio and Murças. Quinta dos Murças Reserva is born in the Quinta's oldest vineyards, situated between 150m and 280m in altitude, with exposure to the West. This is the classic version of the Quinta's wines where the terroir gives rise to wines of great elegance and ageing potential. This red wine results from a blend of different vineyards - Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Sousão, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz and ages in French oak barrels used for 12 months. It presents a complex, fresh and elegant aroma, dominated by black fruits, balsamic aromas, such as cistus, and by notes of spices from its ageing in barrels. In the mouth it is firm and concentrated, with a well present and balanced acidity, with mature tannins well involved in its body and volume. It presents a long and persistent finish, dominated by fruit notes, where its balance and elegance stand out. The palate is dominated by freshness and vivacity, has firm and ripe tannins, with a well wrapped acidity.
